JULY 2007 releases
Phil Jupitus at The Lights
In a great coup for The Lights Venue
Director Heather Whittam has secured top draw comedian Phil Jupitus
to appear at The Lights on the 27 and 28 July.
Phill Jupitus is a comedian and
broadcaster best known for his work on BBC2’s Never Mind The
Buzzcocks and Q.I. He recently spent five years as the host of the
breakfast show on BBC 6 Music. For this visit he will be performing
a new play called Waiting for Alice which he wrote and performs
with Andre Vincent.
Andre Vincent is a writer and
presenter on BBC3’s satirical comedy show The Late Edition and is a
regular performer on the UK comedy circuit. His Edinburgh show
Hurrah For Cancer became an award winning TV show for the BBC. He
is probably Malta’s favourite stand up comedian.
Waiting for Alice is the story of two
beloved icons from children’s fiction locked together in a semantic
quandary. If they are not being read, do the characters in a book
still exist? Wrestling this thorny conundrum to the ground in the
roles of Tweedledum and Tweedledee are stand ups and writers Phill
Jupitus and Andre Vincent, two comedians who have constantly been
mistaken for one another throughout their varied careers. Vincent
became so tired of forever being accused of being Jupitus, that he
hit on the idea of them capitalising on their similar physicality,
so Waiting For Alice was born.
The play has been written by the pair
and allows them full rein to explore both characters as at the end
of each performance they will be exchanging roles, so in the
following show they’ve swapped parts.
Tickets for the show are £13, £12 or
£10 and are available from the Box Office on 01264 368368 or online
