Funny Business at The
Lights
Half-term fun at The Lights
includes workshops for children aged from 4 to 16 years and a
fantastic family show in the theatre.
Fraser Hooper stars in Funny Business on
Monday 18 February at 11am. This show guarantees
giggles galore with mime, classic clowning, ridiculous routines,
comedy and eccentric dance with lots of audience
involvement. This is an opportunity for all ages
to see an award winning clown who pays homage to the great silent
comedians with his own contemporary edge.
The Pinochio Play-in-a-Day on Tuesday 19
February offers children aged 8 to 12 years the chance to put their
very own spin on this story of the little wood puppet who begins to
discover the adventures of his dreams to become a real boy.
The half-term drama workshop is the classic
tale of The Owl and the Pussycat. 5 to 7 year olds can
join the Owl and Pussycat on the holiday of a life time – complete
with some honey, a five pound note and a pea green boat.
Along the way they’ll meet the Jumblies and visit the land
where the bong trees grow. The workshop culminates in an
informal performance to family and friends.
Also in this week The Lights is offering two,
‘Make and Take’ science workshops. ‘Mighty Morphing
Animals’ brings the story of the ‘Very Hungry Caterpillar’ to
life with puppets and hands-on experiments and everyone goes home
with a beautiful glittery butterfly. If you are
interested in things that fly then ‘Magnificent Flying Machines’ on
Thursday 21 February will give you all the
answer.
And finally on Friday 22 February young people
from 12 to 16 can exercise their vocal cords at The Singing Shop
led vocal coach Camilla Smith. A chance to sing all
your favourites either solo or in a group and perform to family and
friends at the end of the day.

DIRECT FROM THE WEST END
‘‘Get thee to
a performance!’
Following a sell out run in the West End, The
Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) comes to The
Lights, Andover, on Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14
February.
The Shakespeare boys hit town with their
irreverent, fast paced romp through all of the Bard’s plays in just
97 minutes. So loosen your doublets, sort out your singlets,
clutch your codpieces and join these madcap men in tights as they
weave their wicked way through all of Shakespeare’s comedies,
histories and tragedies in one terrific rollercoaster ride that
will leave you breathless and helpless with laughter!
Shakespeare may well be turning in his grave,
but the show that’s become a cult classic transforms his entire
works into one of the funniest evenings on the planet. Take a look
at ‘Hamlet’ performed forwards, backwards and sideways, ‘Titus
Andronicus’ as a TV cookery programme and a rap ‘Othello’.
And as the comedies aren’t anywhere near as funny as the
tragedies, all 16 are condensed into ‘Four Weddings and a
Transvestite’.

Snake
Davis
Top British soul and funk saxophonist Snake
Davis is performing at The Lights on Thursday 7 February as part of
his current 2008 tour.
Snake the “sax man” is widely known for his
solos on tracks such as Lisa Stansfields “Change”, M-Peoples
“Search For A Hero” and “Moving On Up” and Take Thats “A Million
Love Songs”. He has played and recorded with artists ranging
from James Brown to Paul McCartney, The Eurythmics to Amy Winehouse
– having recorded on more than 400 tracks in recent years for over
60 artists and played live with dozens more.
Snake is in demand across the world; playing
the saxophone family as well as flutes, whistles and the ancient
Japanese wind instrument, the Shakuhachi. A highly talented
player, he is also a musical director (Heather Small and M-People),
a writer, an arranger, bandleader, and sought after for his work in
education.
Snake and his band will be playing music from
his new album as well as some old favourites. Audiences are

they won’t be disappointed. As always, his love of soul music
comes through in his playing as well as jazz, funk and world
music. Snake Davis is the only saxophonist who can literally

His musical skills have no limit, in fact he is as free as a
bird” DAVE STEWART (Eurythmics)
